Bullying at the University of Newcastle (Australia)

We are working to highlight and stop academic workplace bullying at the University of Newcastle, Australia. We are a group of staff and students who have been bullied for speaking out about misconduct.

University of Newcastle Little Known Fact #832

A senior lecturer was "extremely outspoken over the treatment towards two postgraduate students who had made allegations of plagiarism.  I raised my concern for these students at the discipline, Schol and Faculty levels.  My support for the students as later validated by the Ombudsman Report.

Action by UoN: "from this period I was overtly ostracized and continually publically humiliated at discipline meetings by the Head of Discipline ... and two colleagues".

  1. It's a weak system that allows this kind of abuse to continue.

    Outside academics like myself wonder why the University isn't such a good idea and you read things like this and it is very clear why.

    I am very glad the University's funding was cut because of such unacceptable conduct like what was described above.

    Reputation is earned, not sold.
