“Systemic bullying, hazing and abuse generally are identified with poor, weak or toxic organizational cultures. Cultures that are toxic have stated ethical values that are espoused but not employed, and other non-ethical values which are operational, dominant, but unstated.

Such cultures thrive when good people are silent, silenced, or pushed out; when bad apples are vocal, retained, promoted, and empowered; and when the neutral majority remain silent in order to survive. Those who are most successful in such a toxic culture are those who have adapted to it, or adopted it as their own”. (McKay, Arnold, Fratzl & Thomas, 2008)

"Fat cats slurping on the cream"

Caroline McMillen, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Newcastle, has a salary that is about
8 times
that of a senior lecturer!
Her salary increased by 13.8% between 2012 and 2013.

As HW says, "the whole deregulation debate has been propelled because universities are broke. Apparently they’re not."

  1. What exactly has she brought to the university?

If I was being paid close to a million dollars a year I would be willing to answer that.

I saw her in a supermarket once. In her trolley were quite a few luxury items.

I was spending my last 10 dollars on potatoes to last for the week.

I have no future and poor health after being bullied and harassed by a pevert head of school. Place of opportunity the University is not.

Caroline is condoning abuse and has done nothing to stop bullying.

I think the system needs a shake up if it has gotten this unfair and degrading.

  2. She's just a puppet for the cruel regime of the chancellor (a business man) and the less than healthy PVC.

  3. The whole University is completely corrupt and out of control.

  4. It's unfair that the vice-chancellor is owing a high salary while lectures don't get paid equally. The university should invest this money, that she is owing unfairly, and invest in benefits for students. University is not a business!

  5. When is her contract up? Definitely need a new VC as this one simply has not performed! Despite the rhetoric about No. 1 under 50 in Australia (actually held by UTS) their numbers (research income, research outputs) are actually falling as there is no money to support research (probably all going to a few non-performing fat cats!). Need to turn things around and send McMillen packing!
