Bullying at the University of Newcastle (Australia)

We are working to highlight and stop academic workplace bullying at the University of Newcastle, Australia. We are a group of staff and students who have been bullied for speaking out about misconduct.

"Holy moly, what hope is there then if this is the kind of behaviour that goes on"

A recent article in The Conversation on "Toxic Bosses" has elicited many comments.

What is heartening (but sad) about many of these comments is the disbelief and shock shown by commentators about the extent and nature of toxic bosses/bullying in workplace, especially universities like the University of Newcastle.
  • This is the saddest series of comments I have ever read. What is wrong with us? Where is the love we were filled with when we were born? And this Hell is being built in Universities! It reads like we are in a Gulag.
  •  The stories shared in this thread demonstrate how deeply entrenched toxic bosses are, even in universities.
  •  Change needs to come from the top and whilst universities continue to ignore evidence for bullying and harassment, nothing will change. Good people will continue to be forced out and suffer the consequences.
  •  Holy moly, what hope is there then if this is the kind of behaviour that goes on.
  •  Universities have also been known for toxic bosses, favoritism, nepotism, etc. and they seem to reward toxic bosses.
Have the management at the University of Newcastle become so inured to the bullying, harassment, corruption and misconduct that they consider it "normal"?

Are the University of Newcastle staff prepared to do ANYTHING to hang on to their power and privilege?

Are the staff at the University of Newcastle (rightfully!) too scared about the consequences if they speak out?

  1. Many of the toxic types are still clinging to an outdated system.

    In the future students will be able to access the truly great and benefactorial minds in academia.

    This leaves those second rate and second hand plagiarist style academics on the shelf.

    The future of education is always human.

    The rapid ease of information technology is rapidly usurping the mediocre favouritists who wish they had the iron grip on access to educational resources like textbooks and research platforms.

    Why should the government pay senior staff who do very little and benefit no one but themselves?

    Why have people who claim expertise in humanity but posses none themselves, why honour music experts who can't play an instrument why honour scientists who rightfully claim other people's research as their own?
